Johnson County has always been my home. Raised the child of Indian immigrants in Lenexa, my parents fought hard to build a life full of education and opportunities for my brother and me. Their perseverance taught me that progress and working smarter is the way forward to achieve my goals.
I attended Holy Spirit Catholic School and am still a member of the Holy Spirit parish. I graduated from Rockhurst High School and attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. After graduating from Vanderbilt with a double major in Political Science and Spanish, I returned home to Kansas where I attended the University of Kansas School of Law.
I began my career in civil law, but soon determined that I could do more for people who needed help by representing those accused of crimes. I worked in the Johnson County Public Defender’s Office from 2012 until opening my own private practice in 2014. I am proud of the reputation I have built for being a successful trial lawyer. I am proud of the work I have done for my community through my term as president of the Asian American Bar Association and my work on the board of the Johnson County Bar Foundation.
In representing hundreds of individuals charged with felonies, I had a front row seat to observe how the criminal justice system affects all facets of the community. Not just my clients and their families, but the victims, law enforcement, and society as a whole bear the burdens of a criminal prosecution and its results. But as I practiced in jurisdictions outside of Johnson County, I was also able to observe how different prosecution policies could ease or exacerbate that burden for everyone involved. This is what motivated me to run for Johnson County District Attorney. I believe that the people of Johnson County deserve to utilize progressive, evidence-based practices to implement smarter prosecution policies and to relieve the burden that punishment based systems put on the tax payers, victims and each citizen living and working in Johnson County.
Johnson County is, and will always be, my home. I want to make Johnson County safer for all of the community.
